Twinkling lights and candles everywhere remind us that Jesus is the light of the world!
The Apostle Paul wrote:
“Beyond all question, the mystery from which true godliness springs is great! He appeared in the flesh.”1 Timothy 3:16
Advent is a season of reflection and preparation for this great mystery: the birth of Jesus Christ, prophesy fulfilled. People celebrate Advent with bible reading, candle lighting, church attendance, fasting, and prayer. An advent wreath is often made of evergreen branches with five candles in pink, purple and white. Each candle is lit on successive Sundays while reading short bible passages called advent readings.
It is a beautiful tradition that invites you to take a deep breath, take a break from the stresses of the day and reflect on the majesty of Jesus. Candle or not, you are invited to spend time in the hope and anticipation of the coming of a Savior–amazing, wonderful, counselor, God Almighty.
